1. Jesus went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives.  “Sit down here while I pray,” he said to them.  He took along Peter, James and John.  Then he began to be filled with fear and distress.  He said to them, “My heart is filled with sorrow to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.”                                                                                        Mark 14:32-34

2. Jesus advanced a little and fell to the ground, praying that if it were possible this hour might pass him by.  He kept saying, “Abba, you have the power to do all things.  Take this cup away from me.  But let it be as you would have it, not as I.”                                                              Mark 14:35-36

3.An angel appeared to Jesus from heaven to strengthen him.      Luke 22:43

4. In his anguish Jesus prayed with all the greater intensity, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.                         Luke 22:44

5.  Jesus returned to find them asleep.  He said to Peter, “Asleep, Simon?  You could not stay awake for even an hour?  Be on guard and pray that you may not be put to the test.  The spirit is willing, but nature is weak.”                                                                                        Mark 14: 37-38

6. Again Jesus found them asleep on his return.  He returned a third time and said to them, “Still sleeping?  The hour is on me.  The Son of Man is to be handed over to evil men.  My betrayer is near.”              Mark 14: 40-42

7. A crowd came, led by Judas. He approached Jesus to embrace him.
Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”                                                                                                         Luke 22:47-48
8. When Jesus’ companions saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, shall we use the sword?”  One of them struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear.  Jesus said, “Enough!”  Then he touched the ear and healed the man.                                                        Luke 22:49-51

9. “Put back your sword where it belongs.  Do you not suppose I can call on my Father to provide at a moment’s notice more than twelve legions of angels?  But then how would the Scriptures be fulfilled which say it must happen this way?”                                                                   Matthew 26:52-54

10. To the chief priests, the chiefs of the temple guard and the ancients, Jesus said, “Am I a criminal that you come after me with swords and clubs?  When I was daily in the temple you never raised a hand against me.  But this is your hour—the triumph of darkness!”              Luke 22:52-53

 The Scourging at the Pillar

1. Jesus was led, bound, under arrest to the high priest. The whole Sanhedrin was busy soliciting testimony against Jesus to lead to his death, but couldn’t find any.                               Mark 14:50, 53, 55

2.The high priest rose and interrogated Jesus, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”  Jesus answered, “I am; and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”                                                                                   Mark 14:6162

3.The high priest said, “You have heard the blasphemy! What is your verdict?” They all concurred in the verdict “guilty,” with its sentence of death.  Some began to spit on him.  They blindfolded him and hit him, saying, “Play the prophet!”                                                         Mark 14:63-65

 4. (Peter, in the courtyard of the high priest, warming himself by the fire, when questioned, denied being a follower of Jesus three times and the third time said,) “I don’t know what you are talking about?” Just then a cock crowed.  The Lord turned around and looked at Peter, and Peter remembered that the Lord had said to him, “Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” He went out and wept bitterly.       Luke 22:54-62

5. At daybreak the Sanhedrin handed Jesus over to Pilate.  Pilate interrogated Jesus, learned he was a Galilean under Herod’s jurisdiction, and sent him to Herod.  Jesus made no answer to Herod’s questions.  Herod and his guards treated him with contempt and insult and put a magnificent robe on him and sent him back to Pilate.           Luke 23: 6, 7, 11

6. Pilate said to the Jews, “I find no case against this man.  Recall your custom whereby I release someone to you at Passover time.  Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”  (Meanwhile, the chief priests and elders convinced the crowds to ask for Barabbas and have Jesus put to death.)  The crowd shouted back, “We want Barabbas, not this one!”                                                                                        John 18:38-40,   Matthew 27:20

7.Pilate’s next move was to take Jesus and have him scourged.                                                                                                             John 19:1
8.Harshly dealt with, he bore it humbly, like a lamb that is led to the slaughterhouse.                                                                                Isaiah53:7  9. Ours were the sufferings he bore, ours the sorrows he carried.                                                                                                                       Isaiah 53:4
10. Upon him was the chastisement that makes us whole, by his stripes we were healed.                                                                                     Isaiah 53:5

1. The soldiers now led Jesus into the hall known as the praetorium; at the same time they assembled the whole cohort.  They dressed him in royal purple and wove a crown of thorns and put it on him, and began to salute him, “All hail! King of the Jews!”  Continually striking Jesus on the head with a reed, slapping his face and spitting at him, they genuflected before him and pretended to pay him homage.                       Mark 15: 16-20
2. Pilate went out a second time and said to the crowd:  “Observe what I do.  I am going to bring him out to you to make you realize that I find no case against him.  When Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple cloak, Pilate said to them, “Look at the man!”               John 19:4-5

3. As soon as the chief priests and the temple guards saw him they shouted, “Crucify him!  Crucify him!”  Pilate said, “Take him and crucify him yourselves; I find no case against him.”  “We have our law,” the Jews responded, “and according to that law he must die because he made himself God’s Son.”                                                                                       John 19:6-7

4. Pilate was eager to release him, but the Jews shouted, “If you free this man, you are no ‘Friend of Caesar.’  Anyone who makes himself a king becomes Caesar’s rival.”
                                                                                                      John 19:12

5. Pilate brought Jesus outside and took a seat on a judge’s bench at the place called Gabbatha. He said to the Jews, “Look at your king!”  At this they shouted, “Away with him! Away with him!  Crucify him!”  “What!” Pilate exclaimed.  “Shall I crucify your king?”  The chief priests replied, “We have no king but Caesar.”                                                   John 19:13—15

6.In the end, Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified.                   John 19:16

8. He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities.                                                                                         Isaiah 53:5

9. We had all gone astray like sheep, each following his own way; But the Lord laid upon him the guilt of us all.                                           Isaiah  53:6

 10.  And he shall take away the sins of many, and win pardon for their offenses.                                                                                                        Isaiah  53:12

2.  A man named Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was coming in from the fields and they pressed him into service to carry the cross.                                                                                          Mark 15:21

3.  They put a crossbeam on Simon’s shoulder for him to carry along behind Jesus.                                                                                    Luke 23:16

4.  A great crowd of people followed Jesus, including women who beat their breasts and lamented over him.                                            Luke23:27
5.  Jesus turned to them and said:  “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me.  Weep for yourselves and for your children.  The days are coming when they will say, ‘Happy are the sterile, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’  Then they will begin saying to the mountains, ‘Fall on us,’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’”                Luke 23:28-30

6.  Jesus said, “If they do these things in the green wood, what will happen in the dry?”                                                                    Luke 23:31

7. If he gives his life as an offering, the will of the Lord shall be accomplished through him.                                                           Isaiah 53:10

6. “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that all who believe may have eternal life in him.”

9. It was thus that he humbled himself, obediently accepting even death, death on a cross!                                                                          Philippians 2:8

10. “If a man wishes to come after me, he must deny his very self, take up his cross, and begin to follow in my footsteps.  Whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

3. One of the criminals hanging in crucifixion blasphemed him:  “Aren’t you the Messiah?  Then save yourself and us.”  But the other one rebuked him:  “Have you no fear of God, seeing you are under the same sentence?  We deserve it, after all.  We are only paying the price for what we’ve done, but this man has done nothing wrong.”  He then said, “Jesus, remember me when you enter upon your reign.” Jesus replied, “I assure you: this day you will be with me in paradise.”                                                Luke 23:39-43
